Creative Ways To Wear Something Blue

Holly Bowe

You’ve probably heard of the wedding day tradition where a bride is supposed to wear something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue. But just where does this tradition come from?  According to, this tradition goes back to an old English rhyme about the four objects that will bring good luck to a bride on her wedding day. Something old represents continuity; something new brings optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes happiness; and something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity.

Most brides have no trouble deciding upon how to incorporate the first three objects, but when it comes to 'something blue' they want a creative way to do so.  Here are a few creative ways to incorporate blue into your wedding day....

Get a Blue Pedicure or Manicure
A beautiful pale blue shade on your toes or fingers is the perfect way to bring in the 'something blue' on your wedding day.....

Wear Blue Shoes
Since your shoes are typically covered by your gown anyway, you can go as bright or subtle with your blue choice as you like.  If that is just too much blue for you, you can opt for blue soles or blue bling on the soles of your wedding shoes

Hidden Blue In Your Gown
This is a super sneaky way to incorporate 'Something Blue' into your wedding gown: you can sew in a blue heart from a piece of fabric, incorporate a blue ribbon, or even have your wedding date embroidered in blue on the underskirt of your gown

Blue In Your Bouquet
Your bouquet is a great place to add in a little 'Something Blue'.....  You can wrap the stems with blue ribbon, or tuck blue flower into the bouquet, or even add a small blue pendant hanging from the bouquet

Arrive In A Blue Car
If you have access to a vintage blue car, or just a blue car that you like, you can arrive to your wedding in 'Something Blue'

There are many more options of ways to incorporate adding in 'Something Blue' to your wedding day: Blue Lingerie, Write your vows in Blue Ink, Have your bridesmaids or moms sign the soles of your shoes in a blue marker, Wear a Blue Garter.....  there are endless possibilities!
