It was our 2 year anniversary and we go up the the Sofitel Hotel in Minneapolis every time. We got a suite and were planning on going to the mall of America and then to Ruth's Chris Steakhouse for dinner. We got in the car and headed downtown to find the restaurant. After not being able to find it for 30 min. we finally parked and decided to get in a cab because they would know. Well the cab took us two blocks from where we were! After a romantic dinner we headed back to the hotel suite, where champagne and a room service dome was on our table. I thought it was more food, so I started to get into pajamas while he wanted me to go "eat." After him finally convincing me to "eat" i lifted up the dome and the ring box was in the middle of the plate, with "Will you marry me?" written in chocolate. I turned around and he was on one knee. He gave this beautiful speech and poem he wrote for me. I said YES obviously and we are very excited to start our life together!

I was on vacation to Florida with my family after Christmas and thru New Year's (2008-2009). Bryan (my fiance) was unable to make the trip with us that year due to work.We were having a blast in Florida enjoying the warm weather and the beach! For New Year's Eve, we came in off the beach and got ready for an evening of dinner and games.

We arrived at the restaurant and our server brought us a bottle of Champagne compliments of the gentleman at the bar. The server said she would see if he wanted to come out. By this point of the trip, I was really missing the fact that Bryan could not be enjoying the beach and warm weather with me and my entire family. My sister took out her video camera and we were all going around saying our New Year's wishes when she announced - "Look Who's Here!"

Through the doors walks in Bryan!!!!!!!! At this point, I was in tears...completely shocked by his surprise to fly to FL to see me!
Little did I know (of course my whole family knew - reasoning for the video camera), he would proceed to drop to his knee and ask for me to spend the rest of my life with him!!!

His name is Nick and we have known each other since we were 16. We are both from the St. Cloud area and started dating about a year and a half ago. My birthday is Dec 16th and my family and I always go out to dinner to celebrate each other's birthdays. We had decided to go to Applebee's here in St Cloud that Sunday before( the 13th) and my parents were there, his parents were there, my grandparents were there, as well as my younger sister and her boyfriend. We were all eating dinner and everything was wonderful, when the waitress told us that Applebee's had just received a new dessert and they were giving us all a complimentary sample.

She walks out with this very large plate and sets it directly in front of me and to my wonderful surprise it was a cake in the shape of a giant diamond ring (by Icing Dreams) that said will you marry me? I read the cake and looked over at Nick who had the ring out and I LOST IT!! It took me about a minute to calm down and actually answer him!! But when I did I yelled yes and the whole staff of Applebee's ( who all knew) erupted in cheer! It was the most romantic thing that has ever happened to me and knew I had to share it with you!!

Proposal Story After Amber spending 10 months on internship in southern California and many long nights sitting in front of a webcam, I knew I wanted to propose to her before she returned home. California now holds a special place in her heart and I wanted to add something big as part of her experience.

Going on some good advice, I found a small store that helped me create the perfect ring: they cast the ring themselves and found a wonderful stone that complimented the ring. As the final week drew near before I would fly out to drive home with her, I began plotting many scenarios of how to propose. LA has many options. Amber had taken each of her visitors to Wayfarers Chapel; she loved that place, so I decided it had to be there.

Getting on the plane with a ring in your pocket is a little like levitating three feet off the ground in excitement that it attracts the attention of the TSA. The screener scanning my carry on bag looked up and said, “Very lucky lady.” I smiled. Then on the plane, nervously chatting up my neighbor, they asked, “so why are you going to California?” Why indeed! They got very excited when I told them. Soon, the entire plane was singing, buying me champagne, and toasting the big occasion (ok, maybe not, maybe it was more like H1N1 flu guy was hacking all over the seat behind my head, but hey, I tried).

At the airport, giving Amber a hug was like hugging an electric fence dripping wet, I was nervous and excited. I had discovered Josh Groban was singing at the opening night of Hollywood Bowl that Friday. The concert was amazing. Afterwards, I insisted on a spontaneous adventure; I drove. But the body has limits. I really had to go to the bathroom, and said to myself, I’m not proposing like this! So we stopped at a grocery store, got the cops called on us for being in the store (it looked open), and Amber handled the Sheriff while I made a last minute call to the advance team, who were lighting hundreds of candles at Wayfarers. We arrived at the chapel after midnight. Amber got very quiet. She was tightly holding my hand all the way up the candle-lit stairs.

I proposed on the chapel steps, we prayed and cried together. We came back down the steps to our friends cheering about the new adventure that lay ahead of us. We called family back home (it was 3 a.m. their time) to share our exciting news. Amber was wired; I was wiped. We could hardly sleep that night. The excitement overwhelmed us!

Proposal Story The Proposal:
By Kevin Schultz

We grew quickly as a couple and soon realized that what we had was something special and we were meant to share it for the rest of our lives.  We knew an engagement would be coming and targeted the summer of 2008; now the ball was in my court.  Katie’s other sister, Alison, was the first person I told of my intent to ask Katie to marry me.  Not only did I need her help for ring shopping, but I had started to come up with a proposal idea and wanted her input.  After quickly nixing my first idea of proposing at home plate after hitting a home run in softball (Alison had heard about my athletic ability), she suggested I somehow incorporate Lincoln Park in Duluth, the site of their Grandparent’s proposal.

My plan was this:  Tell Katie my team had a soccer game in Duluth (I was coaching at the time) and invite her to come along.  Then, because it was shaping up to be our final season together as a team, we were all going to wear nice clothes so we could take a team and family picture in an area called Lincoln Park ("coincidentally" also a special place to Katie & her family) before the game.  The real story, though, was the game would be an alibi to get Katie up to Duluth, then to Lincoln Park where I’d pop the question.

So I wrote an e-mail “from” our team manager and sent it to her for her to copy and paste it and send it back to me.  The e-mail basically said that the Duluth team wanted an extra game in their schedule and asked if we wanted to play them.  I forwarded the e-mail on to Katie and asked if she wanted to come up for the game and picture – luckily, she said yes.  I had to get the rest of the team in on it, too, in case Katie brought it up to any of them in conversation.  And believe me, getting a group of 40 people to stay quiet about anything isn’t easy.  But they did their part, the day of the Duluth game came, and the plan was on.

I remember waiting in Katie’s apartment on June 25, 2008, rehearsing my lines and pacing back and forth.  My plan hinged on us arriving at a particular time, so I had it figured out that if we left on time from Katie’s and I drove exactly 60 mph up to Duluth (one mile a minute), we would get there exactly when I wanted to.  I told Katie I was going so slowly on 35W to conserve gas; luckily, she chalked up my lame answer as a quirk and didn’t ask any more questions.  On the plus side: I teach Jr. High math, and should my students ever ask the age-old “When are we ever going to use this?” question about unit rates or proportions, I got it covered.

We arrived up at Lincoln Park a little after 8:00pm and since, in her mind, the team wasn’t meeting up until 8:30 or so, I suggested we drive around Lincoln Park a bit.  She started talking about how it was the place where her Grandparents got engaged, so I said we should go there (it’s nice when the person pivotal to your plan gives you every opportunity to pull it off).  It was an emotional place, as her Grandfather has just passed away that March - and Katie and him were quite close. As we pulled up to the spot, we noticed there was another car there, too, and saw it belonged to a woman taking pictures of the scenery.  We got out of the car, walked down a hill, and stood under the exact bridge where her Grandpa Joe and Grandma Lou stood so many years ago.  With our arms around each other, we started talking about our relationship and how it’s grown during the last 10 months.  Knowing the time was right, I began telling her all the things I loved about her and about us.  I turned her to face me and told her what I thought love meant and how I was prepared to show her for the rest of our lives.  Finally, down on bended knee, I asked “Katie, with Grandpa Joe and Grandma Lou as our witness, will you marry me?”

She gave an immediate, teary-eyed “Yes!”, and the pictures you see of the engagement are real:  the woman taking pictures of the “scenery” was a photographer I had hired to meet us there at that specific time to capture the whole thing.

The plan worked without a hitch, and I thank the many players involved.  Let the wedding planning begin!

Engaged: June 25, 2008
Wedding July 10, 2010
